RETAIL LIGHTING DESIGN BECOMES A CHALLENGE WHEN IT REACHES A WORLDWIDE SCALE.

b612 studio developed this international lighting project for Bottega Veneta, identifying solutions to retrofit the lighting systems in existing stores, applied to ceilings and millwork.

The goals of this project were many. The first was to install 100% LED systems, replacing the existing lights, which were fluorescent, halogen or other light sources. This lead to a reduction of operating costs and less environmental impact. Another goal was to create uniform lighting sources and light quality in all boutiques around the globe, ensuring consistent branding and setting an international standard for the fashion house. Thus, the ultimate objective was to improve the light output, in terms of quality and quantity, and the luminous perception in retail areas in relation to the shopping experience.

The project started with a systematic study of the various lighting systems installed worldwide, both ceiling lights and other types of fixtures.

b612 studio carried out a detailed survey of lighting conditions, measuring illuminance and analyzing the light spectrum in order to quantify light quality and its dominant hues and color rendering index (CRI).
Then, through mock-ups and detailed studies, these varied cases were simplified as to get to a more functional system of applicable solutions.

THE STORES INVOLVED IN THIS RETAIL LIGHTING DESIGN PROJECT ARE LOCATED IN EUROPE, USA, CHINA, JAPAN AND AUSTRALIA.

The main goal is to implement solutions that comply with regulations and restrictions in different countries and that can be applied to new and existing lighting systems.

NEW CUSTOM LIGHTING FIXTURES WERE DESIGNED FOR THE CEILING.

They can be installed in existing recesses easily and without major construction.

Even for the lighting fixtures installed on existing millwork, b612 studio’s retrofit solutions do not require modification of the existing structure and can be completed overnight, directly in the store.
The development of these solutions took into account all the restrictions of the various countries, adapting the design in order to create a brief list of products, thereby simplifying the work to be done. These products have been certified according to the standards of different countries in order to become a simple tool for BV store planning offices all over the world, both in terms of order management and project management.

AN IMPORTANT GOAL WAS TO STUDY THE ALIGNMENT OF WHITE HUES BETWEEN THE CEILING LIGHTS AND THE INTEGRATED ONES IN ORDER TO GUARANTEE UNIFORMITY THROUGHOUT THE STORE.

The light sources on the ceiling and those of the millwork are physically different, so the light output is different.

This becomes visible on some types of materials and certain colors, where the dominant color of each light typology is enhanced.

THE ANALYSIS OF THE SPACES WAS DEEPENED WITH THE PROMPT STUDY OF ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS REGARDING BOTH MILLWORK AND CEILING SYSTEMS.
