THE RETAIL LIGHTING PROJECT FOR SUNGLASS HUT IS PART OF THE GENERAL RENOVATION OF THE BRAND’S STORE IN SOHO, NEW YORK.

The renovation involved reorganizing the spaces and adding a pop-in shop, and a space for events and art exhibitions, all of which required careful attention in terms of their lighting.

The former store had major problems concerning the lighting on the sales floor, especially regarding products displayed on special fixtures positioned on the brick wall and on those in the center of the store.
Given its unique location in Manhattan, the lighting project takes into account local regulations and all necessary certifications for lighting fixtures.

THE RETAIL LIGHTING PROJECT FEATURED BOTH CEILING AND MILLWORK LIGHTING.

In accordance with the store layout renewal project and with the redesign of some of the wall fixtures and freestanding displays, b612 studio developed a plan covering both ceiling lights and integrated lighting.

In spite of the particular geometric shape of the ceiling, a sloped surface, the ceiling lighting plan was based on the use of recessed lighting fixtures, iGuzzini Laser Blade downlights, positioning them carefully through dedicated software, taking into account their ability to be aimed on a specific point, the angle of the ceiling and the position of products and fixtures.

The ceiling lighting creates homogeneous illumination both for the ambient light and for the light focused on products on freestanding fixtures such as tables.

Thanks to a wall washing effect, the ceiling light also enhances a white brick wall, an element often found in this part of NYC, that strongly defines the store.

For the pop-in shop area, given the peculiar flexibility of the space in hosting events or art exhibitions from time to time, the ceiling solutions had to ensure efficient illumination yet a light quality consistent with the rest of the store.

The millwork lighting plan involved both existing and new display fixtures.

For existing ones, the retrofit project replaced the existing lights with LED lighting fixtures, without the need for major modifications or interventions to existing wall fixtures, allowing them to remain even in the new layout.
For the new fixtures, fresh lighting solutions have been implemented according to the original architect’s project, with the general goal of ensuring the same quality of light throughout the store.

The final result highlights the unique elements of this space and the products at the same time, without one prevailing over the other, for a balanced result.

The first goal of the retail lighting project was to fix the product lighting and create an atmosphere that would highlight all the architectural details of the space.
